Bette Midler is to be honoured for her career achievements with a special award from the Songwriters Hall of Fame.
The veteran singer/actress will be handed the Sammy Cahn Lifetime Achievement Award at a ceremony in New York later this year (12) to recognise her vocal talents and long-running career.
She follows in the footsteps of previous recipients including Neil Diamond and Tony Bennett.
Songwriters Hall of Fame chairman Jimmy Webb praised Midler for her "stylish presentation and unmistakable voice, making each song her own."
Midler will receive the honour on 14 June (12) at a ceremony during which Bob Seger will also be inducted into the Hall of Fame along with folk songwriter Gordon Lightfoot, country lyricist Don Schlitz, Bat Out of Hell composer Jim Steinman, and the men behind The Fantasticks musical, Harvey Schmidt and Tom Jones.
